Version3.12.1

Group chats

How to use multi-participant conversations in the workspace.

A group chat is a conversation with multiple people, with or without assistants also present.

Where to start one

You can start a group chat from:

What group chats are for

Use a group chat when the work belongs in one shared conversation instead of separate 1:1 threads.

That can include:

  • a few teammates coordinating work;
  • a conversation that also includes Chiro;
  • a conversation that includes one or more personal EAs; or
  • a larger collaboration where assistants are present to help when needed.

Working with assistants in a group chat

Assistants can be present in a group chat. Use the group chat intentionally:

  • include the assistants that are useful for that conversation;
  • mention an assistant when you want that assistant to respond; and
  • keep private assistant conversations separate when they should stay private.

Adding and removing participants

Once a group chat exists, the app can expose participant management controls for the person who started the conversation or for other allowed roles in that workspace.

Use those controls to add or remove people and assistants when the conversation needs to change.

Good practice

  • Keep the participant list as small as the work allows.
  • Use Chiro for shared organization context.
  • Use a personal EA when the task depends on that person's assistant context.
  • Start a separate conversation when the work should not stay in the same shared thread.
